Grand Blue Getting Started
First hour on a ten-player sea without wasting Release! rerolls.
Grand Blue drops you into a pirate action RPG that is still being tuned. Early Access is playable, not finished. Expect hitching, empty systems, and a Logbook that knows more than the tutorial. This page is the first-hour route that does not assume you already ate Flame Fruit.
If you have not redeemed codes, stop and open working codes plus how to redeem. Release! is ten Trait Rerolls and five Race Rerolls. That kit is worth more than your first island quest payout.
Title menu before Play
The title screen lists Play, Customize Character, Change Slots, Trade Hub, and Credits. Order of operations:
- Customize Character — redeem codes, glance at Race (Human), note Trait 1 / Trait 2.
- Do not empty rerolls yet. Read rerolls if you are tempted.
- Change Slots only if you want a clean experiment later. Codes will not repeat on a second slot.
- Trade Hub can wait. You have nothing worth trading.
- Play.
Server size is 10. You will see other pirates immediately. That is normal, not a full MMO shard.
First minutes in-world
Move with WASD, talk with E, light attack with M1, heavy with M2. Number keys fire fruit and fighting-style skills once you have them. The full table is on controls. Mobile players should remap camera sensitivity before the first melee pack; Early Access still feels like a PC combat game on a phone.
Find the Logbook as soon as the HUD exists. Eternal Pose put world info there on purpose. If an NPC name, island rule, or fruit note is missing from this wiki, it is probably in the Logbook already.
Combat before cosmetics
Your first enemies are the tutorial for combat. Learn the M1 string until you can finish a pack without holding M2 by panic. Heavy attacks are for punish windows, not for walking into a camp. Skills come later; empty number keys are not a bug, they are an empty fruit slot.
Do not spend money on cosmetics in the wardrobe. Money has a better job: Fruit Chests, if you insist on skipping the hourly spawn, at the prices listed in how to get cursed fruits. A 1x chest is 1,200. A 100x chest is 98,000 and is not a beginner purchase.
Fruits in hour one
Cursed Fruits spawn every hour on trees and plants. Walk the greenery on your starting island when the clock rolls. Multiple obtain methods exist; chests are the obvious paid one. Skill levels save per fruit, so swapping later does not wipe mastery. That sentence should lower your fear of eating an Uncommon to get moving.
If you pull Darkness (Celestial 0.5%) or Flame (Mythic 1.5%), keep it. If you pull Cannon or Spin (Uncommon 25% each), use it as a skill bar until a better plant spawn appears. Full rarities sit on the cursed fruits guide and the fruit tier list.
Faction, Race, Traits
Pirate versus Marine is a fantasy split, not a tutorial lock. You can play the first islands without min-maxing it. When you are ready, factions explains why the choice matters for quests and PvP on a ten-player server.
Race starts at Human. Traits start empty. Spend code rerolls with a plan, not with a YouTube overlay that says OP. Races and traits plus the reroll planner exist for that moment.
First quests and islands
Follow NPC quest markers. Grand Blue is built as island-to-island progression: quests, a local boss, then a reason to sail. If you ignore quests and only hunt fruits, you will be undergeared when a world boss door opens. The island loop is written out in islands and quests. A 24-hour grind video is embedded there if you want to see the pace.
Alpha testers who hit level 50 during alpha own a tradable exclusive. You will not get that badge now. Do not chase it. Play the Early Access curve in front of you.
Things to ignore on day one
- Executor scripts. Ban warning is in the official description. See scripts.
- Buying 100x Fruit Chests.
- Rerolling Human after one bad fight.
- Trading a Celestial fruit because a stranger in a 10-player server asked.
- Assuming Trello exists. It is still in development; use Discord and this wiki. Links are on links.
A clean first-hour checklist
- Redeem Release! and TwitterGoalReached.
- Bind controls in your head: E, M1, M2, 1–5.
- Open the Logbook.
- Clear two quests on the first island.
- Walk trees at the hour mark.
- Eat a fruit. Any fruit is better than an empty skill bar.
- Bookmark the tier list hub before you open a chest.
That is the start. Everything else on this wiki is a deeper version of one of those bullets.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for Early Access pirates and marines.

Redeem codes in Customize Character, then Play, then follow quests and the hourly fruit spawn.
Is Human a bad race?
No. Human is the default. Learn combat before you spend Race Rerolls.
Can I swap fruits later?
Yes. Fruit skill levels save per fruit, so swapping does not wipe mastery.
How many players are on a server?
Ten. You will see other crews on the same islands.
