Grand Blue Controls
Movement, interact, light and heavy attacks, and the skill bar.
Grand Blue uses a standard Roblox action layout with a pirate-RPG skill bar on top. If your first death is “I could not talk to the NPC,” you missed E. If your first death is “I only clicked once,” you missed the M1 string. This page is the bind list plus how those binds feel in Early Access combat.
Pair it with combat once the keys are in muscle memory, and with getting started if you have not left the title screen.
Keyboard and mouse
| Action | Bind |
|---|---|
| Move | W A S D |
| Interact with NPCs, plants, doors, chests | E |
| Light attack | M1 (left click) |
| Heavy attack | M2 (right click) |
| Skills (fruit, fighting style, weapon arts) | 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, … |
| Camera | Right-mouse drag / mouse move, Roblox default |
| Jump | Space |
These binds match the public control table players have used since the first tests. Early Access can add crouch, lock-on, or a dash key later. If your client shows extra rows, trust the in-game settings over an old screenshot.
How the attack buttons actually play
M1 is your auto. Hold or click in rhythm depending on the weapon or fighting style you equipped. The light string is how you farm island trash and how you confirm fruit skills. If you only press M2, you will whiff recovery into every pack.
M2 is the heavy. Use it after a stun, on a downed boss add, or as a punish when someone else on the ten-player server misses a dash. Do not open with M2 against a full camp.
1–5 are the skill slots. Empty slots mean you have no fruit or the fighting style has not unlocked that art. Eating a Cursed Fruit fills the bar. Mastery stays on that fruit when you swap, so you are not punished for trying Cannon for an hour. Details: cursed fruits.
E is more important than people think. Trees and plants that host the hourly fruit spawn need an interact. Chests need an interact. Logbook entries often begin with an E on a plaque. If you run past greenery at minute 59, you are leaving money on the dirt. Hunt loop: how to get cursed fruits.
Settings that matter
Roblox shift-lock (if enabled in your account settings) helps M1 tracking. Grand Blue is a melee-forward pirate game; a locked camera makes the first island bosses readable. Turn off shift-lock only if you are on a controller and the extra bind fights you.
Graphics: Early Access still hitches. Drop shadows before you drop range. You need to see plants at the hour mark more than you need max water.
Volume: fruit spawn audio, if present, is worth keeping up. Ten-player servers mean someone else hears it too.
Mobile
On touch, M1 and M2 become on-screen attack buttons. Skills become the right-side pentagon. Interact is the E prompt in the middle of the screen. The failure mode is covering the Redeem field earlier on the wardrobe and covering the skill 1 button in combat with your thumb. Sit in a safe spawn and tap every control once before you sail.
Codes on mobile are a separate pain: the ! in Release! disappears. That is a redeem issue, not a combat issue, but it is the other half of “controls.”
Controller
Roblox maps WASD to the left stick and jumps to A/Cross. M1 is usually RT / R2, M2 is LT / L2, interact is X / Square. Confirm in Roblox’s own gamepad map. Grand Blue does not yet advertise a custom controller overlay. If a fighting-style charge move needs a hold, test it on a dummy NPC before a boss.
Common bind mistakes
- Using number keys for Roblox emotes and wondering why fruit skills never fire. Close the emote wheel.
- Binding jump to the same key as interact on a custom map. E plus Space mis-clicks cancel NPC talk.
- Holding M1 through a knockback and drifting off a dock. Release, camera, re-approach.
- Ignoring the Logbook key/button. World rules are written there, including spawn notes.
Practice route
Spawn, find a three-enemy camp, clear it with only M1. Repeat with one M2 inserted at the end of the string. Eat any fruit, then press 1 in an empty field until you know the wind-up. That is enough to enter island quests without looking like a free kill on a ten-player server.
If PvP starts (it will; the description tells you to challenge rivals), the same binds apply. There is no separate arena hotkey. Blocking, i-frames, and dash rules belong in combat because they are kit-dependent, not bind-dependent.
Keep this page until M1/M2/E are automatic. Then you can forget it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for Early Access pirates and marines.
What is the interact key in Grand Blue?
E. Use it on NPCs, plants, fruit spawns, doors, and chests.
What is M1 versus M2?
M1 is light attack (left click). M2 is heavy attack (right click). Build strings on M1, punish with M2.
How do I use cursed fruit skills?
Number keys 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 after you eat a fruit. Empty keys mean the slot is locked or unused.
Do mobile controls change the combat?
Same actions, on-screen buttons. Sit in spawn and tap M1, M2, E, and skill 1 before you fight.
